How Do YOU Feel?

Category: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:51 am

It is easy to talk about and review email scams, but several questions can still remain.  Most importantly, how do you feel when you receive an email scam?  Some of us are so conditioned to expect these scams that they don’t even faze  us.

If you realize an email is a scam do you feel frustrated if you wasted time reading it?  Or, are you even able to detect an email scam and delete it within minutes?  Being able to quickly detect a scam and erasing it immediately from your email is the ultimate goal.  It can be  just as easy to delete a scam as it is to delete an advertisement or other email you don’t want to read. Yet, others might have a harder time.

If you have any questions that an email is scam you can refer to a wide variety of websites that focus solely on scams or reach out to a friend or family member for advice.   In my opinion, you should never respond to a scam or an email that you think is a scam.  Never share your personal information with anyone.  Especially anyone sending you a suspicious message to your personal email address.

Review of Last Email Scam

Category: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:36 pm

This lengthy email scam contains a great deal of detail, but there is one thing that stands out to me the most… the religious references.   Most scammers use some type of  hook or angel to make the victim trust them and in this case it is obviously religion.

In addition to the religious verbiage the scammer appears to have a wide range of medical issues including cancer and a recent stroke.  All of these factors are created to make you (the victim) feel sorry for the scammer and want to help in any way you can.  The scammer reaches out for this help by requesting that you  take a large sum of money and help those that are less fortunate.  The scammer continues to go on in detail about the rest of her family.

There are parts about having no children and also an interesting few sentences covering the lack of phone availability.  All and all, most of these details are common in scams sent every day.  The scammer is attempting to set up a relationship or connection in order to somehow obtain money and/or your personal information.

You might feel sorry for the “victim”, but the reality is you will become the victim if you reply.

Sick of Pharmaceutical Emails?

Category: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:44 am

Alright, let’s be honest… how many pharmaceutical scam emails are really in your spam or inbox?  I will tell you that lately I am getting more pharmaceutical scam emails than anything else.

Take this to cure “BLANK” and try this to cure your “BLANK.”  (I will leave it up to you to fill in the blanks.)  The truth is that these forms of email scams are becoming more and more apparent.  In addition, they can become more and more annoying.  I refuse to click on any links involved with these emails for several reasons.

First, I really do not want anything they are offering.  Second, I am afraid that the simple link will result in malware, spyware, or something else.  Tell us, do you click on any of these links and why?  Are you afraid that you will end up with an infected computer or worse?

I treat all spam the same regardless of who it is from and what is offered.  Spam and email scams do not last long in my inbox or even in my spam.  I tend to hit delete just as fast as I see the annoying subject title.  Should your “BLANK” need some “BLANK?”  DELETE!

But They Used My Email Address!!!!

Category: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:14 pm
A dear friend sent this scam along a few days ago.  This appeared in his inbox and the subject line read “Hey xxxx@gmail.com”.  Of course, we used “X” instead of his name! This scam caught his eye and he wanted to share it because they had tried to use his personal information to catch his attention.  Read below.
Congratulations XXX@hotmail.com!
This is Jessica from Financial Aid Department.
I have been trying to reach you in order to inform you
that a Stimulus Check is available to you maybe!
Please register here to claim.
PENDING: ID #081R-GOXV9278
You could receive:
$5,350 a year in Federal Pell Grants
$2,500 a year in Tuition Tax Grants
We wish you all best,
Allison
Financial Aid Department

If you got this, would you think it was a message from a trusted source? Maybe one the email newsletters you signed up for?  Well, it is best to take it slowly when you open and read emails that include your personal email address.  They aren’t always from a trusted source.  The best thing you can do is to avoid any unnecessary downloads especially if the email is vague and you are not sure the reason for its deliver.  Thanks dear friend for sharing this scam with us!
